Souper Cubes Review: This Shark Tank Product Freezes Food in Perfect Portions

I am a Shark Tank addict and recently saw an episode featuring a kitchen gadget that has totally changed how I meal prep and freeze leftovers. It's called Souper Cubes and they allow you to freeze almost anything in cute little space-saving blocks. Think large, sturdy ice cube molds - but 100% better.

If you've ever struggled with trying to neatly pour leftover broccoli soup into a flimsy freezer bag, spilling hot soup all over the outside of the bag and on the counter, then this might be a product for you.

Souper Cubes solve the problem of storing leftover main dishes, vegetables, sauces and soups in perfect portions. Featured on Shark Tank, these sturdy silicone trays allow you to easily freeze almost anything in space-saving cubes. A well-stocked and organized freezer will save you time and money preparing meals.

Souper Cubes have changed how I prep for my keto diet (though the concept applies for any type of eating plan) so I wanted to share my review of this Shark Tank-approved product to make freezer storage "super" easy and efficient.

What are Souper Cubes?

Husband and wife team, Michelle and Jake,  created Souper Cubes to make freezing and reusing soups and stocks easy, convenient, and fun.

Souper Cubes, which look a little like oversized ice cube trays, allow you to freezer soups, chilis, main dishes, vegetables, sauces, and desserts in cute little perfectly-portioned cubes. Souper Cubes come in 1/2-cup, 1-cup, and 2-cup sizes. They have a 2-tablespoon size (perfect for freezing flavored butter or baby food), and a specially designed tray for cookie dough.

Because you can freeze foods in the portion size you choose, there's no more defrosting an entire gallon-sized Ziploc bag of homemade bone broth when you only need one cup for a recipe.

Souper Cubes are made from food-grade silicone which is naturally nonstick, so food pops right out. Just push from the bottom and out pops a frozen cube of keto chili, or taco soup.

One of my FAVORITE features is that Souper Cubes are marked with easy-to-read fill lines which allow for the expansion that naturally happens when freezing.

Souper Cubes are perfect for storing leftovers, batch cooking, and freezer meal prep. Best of all, your can stack them (before or after freezing), they take up very little space in your freezer, and allow you to be super organized.

I love making homemade bone broth but gave up on freezing it because of the inconvenience and mess. Now I can freeze my broth in perfect 1-cup cubes.

Souper Cubes were featured on Shark Tank and received Lori Greiner's once-a-season Golden Ticket.

I have been a Shark Tank junkie for years and I was first introduced to Souper Cubes when I watched the episode that aired on ABC on February 19, 2021.  Husband-and-wife entrepreneurial duo Jake and Michelle Sendowski presented their company to Sharks Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, and Guest Shark Kendra Scott to see if they could make a deal with one of the investors on the show.

If you watch Shark Tank you know that the best products, and the ones most likely to get a deal, are products that solve a common problem. Souper Cubes were offered as a solution for a "common food storage issue."

Jake and Michelle explained that food had always played an integral role in their lives and it was a way of connecting back to their families traditions. Whenever they would make their family chicken stock recipes, they always had the same problem... they needed to know how they could quickly and easily freeze their soups so they could thaw and use it later.

When I heard their presentation, I was silently screaming YESSSS! in my mind. I love making homemade chicken and beef bone broth and have tried to freeze it in the past. It was always an awkward (and tedious) process of cooling the soup, assembling Ziploc bags and a funnel, trying to pour the precious bone broth into a flimsy plastic bag flopping around on the countertop without making a mess of my counters and the outside of the bag. Most of the time it wasn't worth the battle.

Instead, I stored the bone broth in a big tub in my fridge and prayed I could use it up in a few days. Which made me resent having to drink mug-after-mug of bone broth for snacks or homemade soups (which I love in moderation) for every meal.

RELATED: I drank a ton of bone broth and bone broth soups when I did Dr. Kellyann's 5-Day Cleanse and Reset.

Michelle and Jake demonstrated that storing soups or broths was as easy as pouring the food (while it's hot or cold) into the Souper Cube tray, placing the lid on the container, and then popping it in the freezer. Because the trays are reinforced with steel edges they don’t flop around like Ziploc bags.

After freezing, the food or soup can be popped out for easy storage and then reheated at any time.

Best of all Souper Cubes can be used for ANY food that can be frozen, not just soups, stews, and broth. The freezer cubes can be used for casseroles, hummus, pesto, brown rice, or any dish that can be frozen and reheated.

My brain started lighting up with all the ways I could use Souper Cubes. Following a keto diet, as I do, there are times when I want real food without having to pull out dozens of fresh ingredients and multiple pots and pans. In my old dieting days, I relied on Lean Cuisines or Weight Watchers meals for those occasions, but there are no keto frozen meals I am aware of.

What if I made my own freezer meals?? What if I froze my leftovers in individual portions so I could quickly and easily reheat a real meal at any time?

My mind was blown.

While still watching the Shark Tank presentation, I grabbed my phone to see if Souper Cubes were on Amazon - and they were. Sometimes products sound AMAZING during their Shark Tank presentation but I was curious what real people who had used the product thought. I was shocked (and impressed) that Souper Cubes have a 5-star rating and tons of reviews on Amazon.

I ordered some immediately. Which was a very good thing since the day after the Shark Tank episode aired Souper Cubes were sold out on Amazon and on the company's website.

Souper Cubes are back in stock now. Click for the current price on Amazon.

Michelle and Jake made a deal with Lori Greiner. Lori, one of my favorite Sharks, awarded them her "Golden Ticket" which meant Lori was so impressed with the presentation that she offered the company exactly what they asked for because she was so passionate about the product.  Lori offered $400,000 for 5% equity in the company, and the Sendowskis quickly accepted that offer.

You can watch a clip of Lori giving out the season’s Golden Ticket below…

What are Souper Cubes made out of?

You might think "what are Souper Cubes made of" is a rather boring thing to talk about in a review, but BPA is a common additive to plastics and I don't want to use any product that might leak toxins or an industrial chemical into my foods.

Both the Souper Cubes trays and lids are BPA-free.

The trays are made from 100% FDA food-grade silicone, which is naturally nonstick. The edges of the tray are reinforced with steel so they hold their shape and do not collapse when filling or when stacking trays - even before the food is frozen.

The lids are made from Polypropylene Plastic (PP), which is also BPA-free.

How do you use Souper Cubes?

It's simple to start using Souper Cubes to stock your freezer full of perfectly-portioned foods.

1 - Fill your tray.

You can either prepare your favorite meals and freeze the leftovers or intentionally prepare a larger portion of soups, grains, sauces, casseroles to stock your freezer.

Just put your hot or cold food inside the tray, and be sure to stop at the fill line to allow for expansion in the freezer.

2 - Freeze it.

Place the lid on the Souper Cube tray and place it in the freezer.

You can either leave your food in the trays or pop out the frozen food when solid and store in a freezer-safe bag.

Be sure to label your freezer bags so you know what's inside. Also considering keeping a simple inventory of what leftovers you have stored in the freezer. It can be as simple as writing foods on a piece of notebook paper and crossing it off when you remove a portion from the freezer.

reheat frozen blocks of soup quickly and easily

3 - Reheat.

Take out a frozen cube (or cubes) and reheat in the microwave, or in a pot on the stove.

My fault these loaves are ugly, ha ha! But this keto yeast bread tastes amazing and I love how baking it in the Souper Cubes gives me mini loaves which I need for portion control.

You can bake bread, meatloaf, and other foods in Souper Cubes.

The Souper Cube trays are oven-safe up to 415 degrees which means you can bake and freeze bread, meatloaf, quiche, and other foods right in the container.

Because the rim of the trays is steel, it is sturdy and will not flop around while adding dough or baking. You also don't need to place a sheet pan underneath the Souper Cubes tray in the oven.

I’ve found that the 1-cup or 2-cup sizes work best for baking. As you can see from the photo, I baked small loaves of my favorite keto bread mix in the one-cup tray.

Remember, while the Souper Cubes trays are oven-safe, the lids are not.

I added crispy bacon, gouda, and asparagus to the trays and topped with the seasoned egg and cream mixture. This is my Crustless Keto Quiche recipe.

Tips for baking in Souper Cubes.

  • When baking bread, fill the container only about 1/2 full to allow the bread to rise.

  • For quiches, brownies, or other foods that expand while baking, fill the container only 2/3 full.

  • Because the trays are made from silicone which is naturally nonstick, you do not need to grease the inside before baking.

  • Let bread cool completely before removing it from the Souper Cubes.

  • You may need to adjust baking times, so be sure to occasionally check for doneness. Just FYI, when I baked the keto sandwich bread it took 25 minutes which was exactly the same amount of time as a full loaf. My quiches took a little longer than the recipe called for because the Souper Cube containers are deeper than a pie plate.

How do you know if you can freeze something in Souper Cubes?

Despite the would "soup" in the name, literally any food can be frozen in Souper Cubes.

The question really should be "does pad see ew (my favorite Thai dish) freeze well?" Or "does heavy cream freeze well?"

It's more a question of whether a certain food will retain its flavor and texture after being frozen.

When I'm uncertain about freezing a certain food, like pad see ew, I google it. Sometimes the answer will be an unequivocal "no."

Sometimes people have a difference of opinion, which is the case for freezing pad see ew. The first article I read said don't freeze pad see ew because the rice noodles will become gummy. The second answer said yes, it's ok.

When you are unsure if a particular food will freeze well, I recommend trying with a small amount of leftovers to see if you like the taste and texture when you thaw and reheat it. If it works out, great. If not, you can toss the leftovers without feeling guilty.

Spoiler: I am not super picky and thought my frozen pad see ew reheated beautifully.

11 reasons why I love Souper Cubes (and why you might love them too)!

Now that I am a Souper Cubes convert, I want to share 11 reasons I love Souper Cubes.

  1. As someone who loves to make homemade bone broth and soups (and I ate healthy soups almost every day when I did a 5 day cleanse), I LOVE that Souper Cubes are sturdy and easy to fill. Now I actually want to freeze my broths and soups. No more fumbling and spilling liquid all over the counter like I did before.

  2. The clear tight-fitting lid keeps food fresh, prevents freezer odor, and freezer burns. Plus I can see what's inside.

  3. Souper Cubes are stackable in the freezer even before the food is frozen. I just bought a new refrigerator with a TINY freezer so saving space is very important to me.

  4. You can freeze food in perfect portion sizes. The 1-cup size is perfect for a mug of bone broth or a serving of cauliflower rice. I can pull one or more cubes from the freezer to create a healthy, home-cooked meal for myself. Or grab double the cubes and make dinner for two.

  5. You can easily pop out the frozen blocks of food. Just push up from the bottom.

  6. Souper Cubes don't stain or retain odor. I've frozen the Taco Soup and Tomato Bisque with Bacon recipes from eMeals and after throwing the trays in the dishwasher there were no stains. I've frozen Basil-Garlic and Rosemary-Garlic butter and there are zero garlic odors after washing.

  7. I save money because I no longer waste leftovers. You know how you make a pot of chili and there's just a little left but maybe you're not in the mood to eat it again right away? It's easy to freeze small amounts of leftovers and they're ready when I AM in the mood for chili again.

  8. Souper Cubes are perfect for singles or couples. We are a family of two but most recipes are geared for 4 or 6 people which means there are almost always leftovers that can easily be frozen.

  9. I save time by batch cooking. It takes the same amount of time to make a small pot of bone broth as it does to make a large pot.

  10. I eat healthier when there is home-cooked food in the freezer. If I don't feel like cooking but know I have perfectly sized portions of pulled pork, mashed cauliflower with cheddar, and homemade keto BBQ sauce in the freezer I will choose my food instead of ordering takeout.

  11. This also saves money because I am less likely to dine out with a well-stocked freezer!

I have a tiny freezer now, but Souper Cubes allow me to stock healthy foods for quick meals AND it saves so much space!!

What are other people saying about Souper Cubes?

Souper Cubes have made a huge difference in how I store and freeze bone broth, chili, soups, and leftovers, but don't just take my word for it. As I mentioned earlier, I started reading Souper Cube reviews while I was still watching Shark Tank.

Souper Cubes has 4.9 out of 5 stars on Amazon (which is almost unheard of).

Here are comments from other people who love Souper cubes too!

Corrie PDX says: "I was pretty appalled at the price for a two-pack (nearly $40 as of this writing), but there didn't seem to be any equivalent products, so I went ahead and took the plunge, and I am so glad I did. These things are AWESOME! I froze leftover Indian lentils in 1.25 cup increments, and the cubes popped right out. I love how sturdy the silicone is (especially compared to the silicone muffin pans I've been using to freeze leftovers). I also love how sturdy the lid is--you could stack several units on top of each other quite easily. So, yep. I'm saying it. $40 is money well spent in this case."

Barbz says: "I have limited freezer space and every inch counts. Plus, I love the idea of reducing waste and not having to throw food away because I couldn’t get to using it in time. And, finally, lets talk about portion control. If I pull a two or three-cup portion from my freezer, I’m going to try to finish it off! So, one cup (or less) is much more diet-friendly!"

Comfort Tx says: "Just buy these. You’ll be glad you did. They are worth the price. The quality is outstanding. The company is a small family-owned company and I love supporting small businesses. I wish them the best of luck. They designed a quality product."

Amazon Customer says: " I don’t know how I lived before these. We are a food allergy family AND are doing some healing protocols/diets to try and address some underlying health issues. These make life SO much easier."

I hope you found this review of Souper Cubes helpful if you are on the fence about purchasing them. They have totally changed the way I food prep and wanted to share my Shark Tank discovery with the world!
