I Ate Keto Factor Meals for 7 Days and Lost 5 Pounds: 2023 Review

Factor creates dietitian-designed, chef-prepared healthy meals that are delivered fresh, never frozen, straight to your doorstep.

As someone who follows a ketogenic diet I wondered, could I lose weight by eating keto-friendly Factor meals for 7 days?

I created an account with Factor and chose some delicious-sounding keto meals. I want to start by saying this is not a sponsored post. I purchased these meals with my own money and, unlike some reviewers, did not receive free meals in exchange for my review.

This is my personal experience with weight loss and Factor meals.  Because we all have different bodies and metabolisms and nutritional needs, you may have different results.

I lost 5 pounds in 7 days, enjoyed flavorful, satisfying keto meals, and spent almost no time in the kitchen. Ordering Factor meals was the most effortless way to eat the keto meals I love, to get the weight loss results I wanted, with zero preparation and stress.

What is Factor?

Before we dive into my Factor keto meal adventure, you need to know what IS Factor (also known as Factor 75).

Factor is a meal-delivery service that provides fresh, healthy, already-prepared meals to support people who want to eat satisfying, nutritious meals without the hassle of shopping, prepping, cooking, and cleaning up. They have meals for many lifestyles including paleo, keto, low-calorie, vegetarian, vegan, and dairy-free.

Each week you can choose from dozens of delicious, nutritious meals, which are chef-prepared from the freshest ingredients. Factor uses sustainably sourced seafood, grass-fed meat, and antibiotic-free poultry. Produce is organic when possible, and always free of GMOs.

Factor delivers fresh meals directly to your doorstep so you can enjoy the benefits of clean eating without lifting a finger.

Exactly how I did my Factor 7-Day weight loss experiment.

  1. I created an account and ordered 14 Factor meals. These would be my lunch and dinner for 7 days.

  2. I made a few simple guidelines for my Factor diet: I would either drink coffee with heavy cream for breakfast (my usual routine) or, if hungry, I'd make a fast-and-easy keto breakfast of eggs with either a few slices of bacon or half an avocado.

  3. I vowed not to snack between meals. If hungry I'd sip on bone broth or drink coffee, tea, chai tea, or golden milk. Snacking (even when it's totally keto-friendly) is a downfall of mine.

  4. I did not count macros since the Factor meals are keto-friendly and my breakfast, coffee, and bone broth or hot drinks are all perfectly keto too.

Factor keto shrimp meal

The Tuscan Shrimp Factor Keto meal is one of my favorites!!

7 Days of Keto-Friendly Factor Meals

Day 1

I weighed in first thing in the morning and logged my weight in the MyFitnessPal app. I was hungry in the morning so I ate 2 hard-boiled eggs and 3 slices of applewood smoked bacon and then had my usual coffee with heavy cream and 2 scoops of Vital Proteins collagen powder

Lunch was Tuscan Shrimp with Creamy Kale & Zucchini-Pepper-Onion Medley.  This meal was DELICIOUS!!! The bar was set pretty high with this one and I immediately wished I had ordered 2. The shrimp was seasoned well in a garlic butter sauce and miraculously the shrimp was not overcooked. It's not uncommon to have overcooked shrimp at a restaurant, so I was shocked when the shrimp were tender and not rubbery. The kale was cheesy and creamy and very rich. I am a person who loves eating lots of veggies on my keto diet so was thrilled to have the blend of zucchini, peppers, and onions. You could definitely taste oregano and basil and overall I was delighted.

Dinner was Garlic & Herb Chicken Breast with Smoked Cheddar Cauliflower "Grits".  I am a huge fan of grits, which sadly are a no-no on a keto diet. In this meal, cauliflower grits are mixed with smoked cheddar cheese and are the base of this chicken meal. The chicken was marinated in roasted garlic oil and Italian herbs and grilled. Roasted broccoli topped with a smoky chili garlic butter was the side dish. This meal was super flavorful and an immediate favorite.

I also had a piece of Peppermint Chocolate Keto Cheesecake. The cheesecake had a crunchy chocolate crust, and mildly sweet peppermint flavor. It was nice to have a low-carb dessert without spending hours baking!

The Peppermint Chocolate cheesecake has 260 calories, 4 grams net carbs, 24 grams fat, 6 grams protein.

Later in the evening, when I sat down to watch TV I made a mug of Yogi Bedtime tea. I'm used to snacking while I watch TV so wanted to create a calming evening ritual and also keep my hands busy.

Factor keto pork meal

Another Factor favorite: Rosemary Pepper Pork Chop with Green Beans topped with Mushroom Cream

Day 2

Because I'm not snacking throughout the day, I've been hungrier than normal in the morning. I started my day with 2 fried eggs topped with green onions, and 3 slices of bacon for breakfast. Then I had my usual coffee with cream and collagen.

Lunch was Keto Poblano Bowl with Roasted Broccoli "Rice" & Scallion Sour Cream.  I really enjoyed the spicy ground beef with pieces of jalapeno and poblano peppers and a sprinkle of cheddar cheese. The scallion sour cream was perfect to cool it off a bit. I wasn't in love with roasted broccoli as the side. I wish it had been something with tomato, like a salsa or pico de gallo. The broccoli was tasty, but it seemed like an odd pairing. I was in a rush at lunchtime so did not creatively plate this meal. I ate it straight out of the plastic container which, if I’m honest, I would do all the time if not photographing meals for my blog!

I was feeling a little hungry in the afternoon, but instead of reaching for a snack, I made a nice hot decaf with cream to tide me over until dinner.

Dinner was Rosemary Pepper Pork Chop with Green Beans topped with Mushroom Cream.  This was amazing! The pork chop was tender, moist, and well-seasoned. The roasted red pepper cauliflower mash was cheesy and decadent. And green beans with mushroom sauce? It reminded me of Thanksgiving green bean casserole while being perfectly keto!  As you can see from the photo above, I actually plated this meal for dinner. I sent a photo - without explanation - to my chef son who said "nice!" and wanted to know all the details. He was surprised to learn it was a prepared meal.

Nutrition Facts: 540 calories | 10 grams net carbs |  32 grams fat | 51 grams protein

Day 3

Lunch today was Artichoke & Spinach Grilled Chicken with Roasted Zucchini & Tomato Butter.  I was wowed with the large chicken breast which, unlike when I cook chicken breast, was perfectly tender and juicy. It had a hint of smoky grill flavor, and was served over a delicious spinach artichoke dip. One of the things I love about keto is you can eat amazingly tasty, decadent meals and still lose weight! It was served with roasted zucchini with a tangy tomato, basil, and Parmesan butter. This dish was incredibly satisfying.

Factor Greek Bowl

Talk about a next-level TV dinner!

Dinner was Yia Yia's Greek Beef Bowl with Garlic Zucchini & Spiced Sour Cream.  As you can see from the photo, I ate it right out of the tray so I could watch TV! I have never had a "TV dinner" so satisfying, flavorful, and keto-friendly.

This meal had seasoned ground beef, roasted bell peppers, and grape tomatoes. It was topped with garlicky steamed spinach and a sprinkle of Feta cheese, and a cup of lemon-cilantro yogurt sauce for drizzling. It had a side of herb-roasted zucchini topped with tomato-oregano butter. All the flavors of a Greek meal without the high-carb pita bread!

As you can see I also had a slice of the Peppermint Chocolate Keto Cheesecake. It was a very satisfying dinner! (Go Team USA!)

Factor keto picnic pack meal

This meal was a rare dud.

Day 4

For lunch I had the Keto Picnic Pack. This is a grab-and-go meal that requires no heating so theoretically it's great when you don't have access to a microwave, like when you are traveling, or it's a hot day.

The Factor meal had a curry chicken salad - shredded chicken mixed with mayo, lemon juice, fresh parsley, curry powder, and sliced almonds for crunch. It’s served with two sides: roasted mushrooms and hazelnuts, coated with a garlic balsamic vinaigrette, and a diced broccoli salad dotted with toasted sunflower seeds.

I had such high hopes for this meal (thinking about upcoming travel), but I was not a huge fan of this dish. I was running around this day and came home hangry and it just didn't hit the spot. But with the Keto Picnic Pack, and any of the meals, I think it's all a matter of personal taste and preference. I didn't love it, but you might.

Factor keto sun dried chicken and zucchini meal

The sun-Dried Tomato Chicken with Zucchini Noodles keto meal from Factor was delish!

Dinner was Sun-Dried Tomato Chicken with Zucchini Noodles.  Marinated and grilled chicken breast is served over a yummy sauce featuring sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, and parmesan cheese. Zucchini noodles serve as a low-carb side. It was hearty and satisfying.

Nutrition Facts: 660 calories, 6 grams net carbs, 53 grams fat, 42 grams protein.

Factor keto meal

Factor Picante Shredded Chipotle Chicken was totally keto-friendly.

Day 5

Lunch today was Picante Shredded Chipotle Chicken with Spanish Cauliflower Rice, Jalapeño Chickpea Mash & Smoked Chile Crema.  This meal had Chipotle vibes with shredded chicken seasoned with a paprika, cumin, and cayenne blend, then sprinkled with pepper jack cheese. It’s served over carb-friendly Spanish cauliflower rice, topped with tomatoes, zucchini, and poblano peppers. On the side, a spicy, creamy refried chickpea mash, which is cooled off by a refreshing drizzle of smoky chipotle-lime crema. Yummy and filling, just how I like my meals!

Nutrition Facts: 440 calories | 18 grams net carbs |  17 grams fat | 45grams protein

Dinner tonight was Cheesy Bacon Ranch Shredded Chicken with Portabellas & Roasted Garlic Broccoli. This meal also had a base of shredded chicken, like my lunch, but the flavors were totally different. Chicken was topped with cheddar cheese, crispy nitrite-free bacon and green onions, then served over a luscious cream cheese sauce infused with ranch seasoning. Two satisfying sides round out the meal: Portabella mushrooms roasted with olive oil, garlic, thyme, and garlic-roasted broccoli.

Factor keto pork meal

The keto Factor Pork Tenderloin with Cheesy Cabbage was one of my favorite meals. So satisfying!

Day 6

Lunch today was Pork Tenderloin & Cheesy Cabbage with Garlic Butter Green Beans and I loved this meal! It had thick slices of flavorful, tender pork over creamy, cheesy cabbage and a side of garlic butter green beans. It reminded me of a Sunday dinner at grandma's house with simple, tasty meat and veggies. It was a total comfort food vibe. The pork was much better quality than what I normally buy and this was one of my favorite Factor meals.

Nutrition Facts: 600 calories | 8 grams net carbs |  44 grams fat | 40 protein

Dinner was fancy: Garlic Herb Salmon with Celery Root Mash, Roasted Cauliflower & Tomatoes. I am really shocked that Factor keeps seafood (and the other proteins) from being overcooked because this salmon was moist, tender, and flavorful. The big surprise with this meal was the celery root puree! I have never tried celery root before and it was AMAZING. It reminded me of creamy, decadent mashed potatoes, but celery root puree (at least Factor's version) is perfectly keto. The meal also had roasted cauliflower and grape tomatoes on the side. This meal was one of the lowest in carbs and tasted like an upscale restaurant meal.

Nutrition Facts: 560 calories | 6 grams net carbs |  43 grams fat | 36 protein

Day 7

This was my last day exclusively eating Factor meals for lunch and dinner and I'm a little sad the tasty restaurant-quality meals are coming to an end and I'll have to start meal prepping and cooking again!

Lunch was Sesame Shrimp Bowl with Cauliflower "Rice," Roasted Broccoli & Ginger Aioli.  As with my other seafood meals, the shrimp was perfectly cooked. It is marinated in sesame oil with crispy sesame seeds and scallions, then oven-roasted. Shrimp are served over broccoli rice with a side of sesame-roasted zucchini. There's a chili garlic butter and ginger aioli to top your meal. Sooooo good!

Nutrition Facts: 640 calories | 9 grams net carbs |  55 grams fat | 26 protein

Dinner tonight was truly breakfast for dinner, which I love to do. Chorizo Egg Skillet & Turnip Hash with Roasted Peppers & Ancho Lime Crema is a keto-friendly take on a classic breakfast skillet. Eggs are scrambled then sprinkled with cheese. The eggs were served with chorizo sausage and a medley of roasted bell peppers and onions, and a roasted turnip hash with ancho chiles and lime crema. I wasn't in love this this meal, but it's personal preference. I enjoyed the eggs and the crema, but the chorizo, pepper, and onion saute was a little spicy. I have tried turnips before (and wasn't a big fan) but wanted to try them again just in case someone else preparing turnips would make them more palatable. But no, lol. It was filling but just not my favorite.

Can you lose weight with Factor Meals?

It is definitely possible to lose weight by eating keto Factor meals. They are healthy, satisfying lunches and dinners, but they are not a magic pill. To lose weight eating Factor meals it is important to supplement those meals with drinking water, eating other healthy foods, and avoiding excess snacking or highly processed foods.

How Factor meals helped me to lose 5 pounds:

  • Meals were satisfying, so I had little urge to snack between meals.

  • They are keto-friendly, which is the lifestyle I choose to follow.

  • Pre-packaged meals help with portion control. There can be no "second helpings" or extra-large servings.

  • I spent zero time meal prepping so I wasn't tempted to snack while preparing meals.

Now that you know my personal experience with weight loss and Factor Meals I'd love to answer some common questions. When I invest in anything, whether it's a meal service or supplement or a pair of joggers, I do my research. I want to know EXACTLY what I am getting for my money, how the process works, and what to do if I am unhappy.

Pros of Ordering Factor Keto Meals

Factor Meals use high-quality, whole-food ingredients.

Factor Meals are dietitian-designed, chef-prepared meals crafted from quality ingredients. Meats are grass-fed, pasture-raised, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free. There are no refined sugars, meals are preservative-free, and there are no GMO ingredients.

Factor Meals are designed by dietitians and prepared by chefs.

You can be sure that your meals are tasty and healthy because they are created for a variety of healthy eating plans (keto, low-carb, vegetarian, calorie-smart) AND they are prepared by chefs. One of my sons is a chef so I definitely know the difference between a chef-prepared meal and one I might serve up for dinner, lol.

Factor Meals are a convenient way to eat healthy meals.

Factor Meals are shipped straight to your door and are never frozen. Heat for just 2 minutes in the microwave and you have a hot, delicious healthy meal with zero grocery shopping, meal planning, or food prep.

Factor Meals are delivered fresh, not frozen.

I like that these meals are prepared fresh and never frozen. Just pop in the fridge for easy storage, and the meals reheat in just 2 minutes.

Factor Meals are a perfect solution when you want a healthy keto dinner for one.

If you're on your own, Factor meals is a great solution when you want a healthy, chef-quality meal.

If you live with others it still may be a great solution if your partner, roommate, or family doesn't follow a low-carb diet. Or if people you live with have a picky palate and don't love healthy ingredients like kale, cauliflower mash, or roasted broccoli. It's just me and my husband most of the time and I love a wide variety of veggies but he doesn't.

Eating Factor meals for lunch or dinner saves time.

Sometimes I want to channel my inner chef and create a spectacular healthy, keto-friendly meal. But cooking is not just throwing ingredients in a pan, and artfully arranging them on a plate. Preparing meals means shopping, storing, washing produce, chopping meats and veggies, boiling, steaming, roasting, pan-frying, and plating. Oh yeah, then clean up.

Grabbing a fresh Factor meal from my fridge, microwaving it for 2 minutes, and sitting down to eat dramatically reduces the time I spend in the kitchen.

Eating Factor meals for lunch or dinner may save you money, especially when compared with a quality-takeout meal.

A healthy, high-quality keto-friendly meal is not inexpensive. A Green Goddess Salad with Chicken at Panera runs $12.19, not counting tax and tip. A Steak Keto Salad Bowl at Chipotle is $12.30, again not including tax, tip, or any delivery charges.

I personally prefer having filling, low-carb meals delivered directly to my doorstep for a lower price than ordering takeout.

There is no food waste with a Factor meal.

When buying groceries to make meals it is impossible to buy the exact quantity of ingredients you need for that meal, and often produce goes to waste. That's one reason meal kit services are so popular. With Factor meals, you get lunch or dinner with zero waste.

You can choose from a large selection of meals each week.

Each week choose from 30 chef-created, satisfying meals at Factor. With such a large selection you can always find meals that appeal to your taste.

You can easily skip a week if you don't want meals.

Factor Meals taste delicious.

I loved almost all of the Factor meals I tried. There were a few misses, but that is solely due to my personal preferences. It is very likely that many of the meals will appeal to you as well!

Cons of ordering Factor Meals.

There are pros and cons of anything and listing some of the drawbacks is a way to help you make an informed decision about whether Factor meals are right for you.

You may order meals you don’t like.

Out of the first 18 meals I ordered, there were only 2 I didn’t like. Because everyone’s tastes and likes and dislikes are so varied it is always a little bit of a guessing game when picking meals. That said, there is an extremely detailed description of each meal and a list of ingredients on the Factor website so you can usually choose meals that taste good to YOU.

The price per meal is higher when you order fewer meals.

This can also be a plus if you choose to order more meals per week as I did. 4 meals per week is $15 per meal, while 12 meals per week are only $11.50 per meal.

Factor has single-serving meals only.

If you want to feed a family, you’d have to choose multiple single-serve meals. They do not offer a family meal option.

There are only a limited number of vegetarian or vegan meals per week.

Each week Factor offers 2-3 vegetarian or vegan meals. If you follow a plant-based lifestyle you won’t have a wide variety of meals to choose from.

Are Factor Meals really keto-friendly?

If you follow a ketogenic diet you may wonder if Factor meals are keto-friendly. Not all of the Factor meals are keto-friendly (because they cater to other healthy eating plans like vegetarian and low-calorie), but each week they offer 14 keto-approved meals.

As you can see in the photo above, ketogenic meals are clearly marked KETO so it’s easy to make smart, low-carb choices.

Meals marked “keto” will contain at least 60% of calories coming from fat, around 20% of calories coming from protein, and 10% or less of calories coming from carbohydrates. The actual carb content for each meal will vary, but most of the keto meals I tried had 10 grams of net carbs or fewer.

Some meals are low in carbs, but not high enough in fat to be considered ketogenic. To make one of these meals “keto-friendly,” simply add fat like a few slices of avocado, a sprinkle of cheese, or a handful of olives.

How many carbs are in Factor Meals?

To find out how many carbs are in Factor meals on the Factor website, simply click on the meal to see detailed nutrition facts.

Meals with keto macros (60% fat, 20% protein, 10% carbs) are clearly marked KETO. Most of the keto meals I’ve tried have 10 grams of carbs or fewer.

Other Factor meals - vegan, vegetarian, low-calorie - will generally have more carbs per serving, but all are listed on the Factor website and, of course, right on the package.

If you track food in an app like MyFitnessPal, LoseIt, and Carb Manager you will find all of Factor meals pre-loaded into those apps.

How much do Factor meals cost?

The cost of Factor meals depends on how many meals you order. Factor offers 5 different meal plans:

  • 4 meals per week for $60 ($15 per meal)

  • 6 meals per week for $77 ($12.83 per meal)

  • 8 meals per week for $99 ($12.38 per meal)

  • 12 meals per week for $138 ($11.50 per meal)

  • 18 meals per week for $198 ($11 per meal)

Does Factor have any promo codes or discounts?

Factor offers a discount of $120 off your first five boxes so you can try their meals at a reduced rate. Just CLICK HERE TO GET $120 OFF (or any of the Factor links in this article) to receive a discount on your purchase.

How do the Factor meals actually taste?

I was thrilled with the flavor and variety of most of my Factor meals. Taste is very subjective, as we all have different likes and dislikes. I am not a super picky eater but I do expect lots of flavor, I expect my food to be well-seasoned, and have tender, juicy meats or seafood.

Previously in this blog post, I described how some of the meals taste, but here is a summary:

  • Factor meals are chef-prepared so you can expect a higher-end meal than say Weight Watchers entrees.

  • All of the Factor meals I tried were well-seasoned. I rarely added salt.

  • Almost all of the Factor meals have a sauce to complement the meal so you will never eat a plain, bland chicken breast. The meals are described very vividly on the Factor website.

  • Meats and seafood were marinated and flavored with herbs and spices.

  • Some proteins or sides were grilled so you can taste a subtle smoke flavor.

  • There are spicy meal options (yay!) that are clearly marked.

  • Attention was paid to even the vegetable sides, flavoring with herbs, spices, cheese, cooking techniques (such as grilling or roasting).

How exactly does the Factor ordering process work?

I want to give a quick tutorial on how to view the Factor meals, how to sign up for an account, and how to place an order. The process is fairly intuitive but I am a person who always want to know EXACTLY what to do before I start. So let’s dive in…

Before you commit, view the weekly menu.

I wanted to see exactly the type of meals offered before I signed up for an account and placed my first order. Just visit the Factor website. On a desktop or laptop, just click, WEEKLY MENU at the top of the homepage. On a phone or tablet, click on the dropdown menu at the top of the page (3 horizontal lines), and click on WEEKLY MENU.

If you decide to order meals it’s a simple process.

Click on the green GET STARTED BUTTON.

Now you will build your first box. Choose the type of menu you are interested in (keto, low-calorie, vegetarian/vegan, or chef’s choice), and choose how many meals you want to receive.

Create an account.

Follow the prompts to create an account by entering your email address, name and address, and creating a password.

Choose a delivery day.

Based on your zip code you will be able to choose from multiple delivery days and you can enter any special delivery instructions such as “leave on the front porch.”

Enter a payment method.

You can pay securely with a debit or credit card, or with Paypal.

Select your meals.

You will see meals automatically selected, based on the type of eating plan you selected. As you can see, my meals defaulted to keto options, because I chose the keto plan.

To change which meals to order, simply click on the green CHANGE MEALS button.

Click or tap on ADD TO BOX to select a meal.

Make informed choices! Read detailed descriptions, and check nutrition facts and ingredients.

The name of a Factor meal is generally pretty descriptive. For example, Artichoke & Spinach Grilled Chicken with Roasted Zucchini and Tomato Butter is probably enough information for you to decide if you will like that meal or not.

If you do want a more detailed description of the recipe, simply click on the meal. You will see a photo of the meal, you now can read a very enticing description of the meal, see complete nutrition facts, and be informed of every single ingredient used in its preparation.

Select any add-ons.

You can supplement your Factor meal order with desserts, smoothies or juices, snacks, and additional sides or proteins.

Browse the weekly add-ons and, if desired, add them to your box.

Save your choices and you are done!

If desired, you can select meals for future deliveries.

You will see a pop-up box, like the one in the image above. If you want, you can select meals for multiple meals at a time. Of course any meals can be changed before the Factor shipping deadline.

Is Factor a subscription service? Is it easy to cancel?

Factor Meals is a subscription service, meaning you will receive a box of meals each week unless you skip a week (or skip multiple weeks) or deactivate your subscription.

Skipping deliveries and canceling your subscription is easy and can be done online.

I order Factor meals when my life is busy or hectic, when I want to get back on track with healthy eating, when my husband is out-of-town, or those times I’m just not in the mood to meal plan and prep. Or when particularly delicious meals are on the schedule!

I’ve skipped weeks when I am in the mood to cook and try new recipes, when I’m traveling, or will be dining out a lot.

When I have several weeks where I won’t be ordering, it’s easy to deactivate my account. This means I won’t have to manually SKIP a week. You can reactivate your account at any time to order more meals.

I am not in love with Factor being a subscription model, but it seems almost all meal kit services are. Because it’s easy to manage my orders and subscription online, I don’t mind.

On busy days, or when I want to watch Netflix while dining, I eat straight from the Factor tray.

Do I recommend Factor meals?

If you’ve read this far you know I am a big fan of Factor meals. I want to eat healthy, filling, and mostly keto meals. I don’t mind cooking but there are times when I prefer the convenience of ready-to-eat meals delivered straight to my doorstep.

I’ve loved the taste of almost all of the Factor meals I ordered. I like that I can supplement my meals with additional sides, proteins, desserts, juices and smoothies, or snacks.

I feel happy when my Factor box arrives, knowing that I have keto-friendly dinners crafted from quality ingredients. I have been very happy with their service and will keep ordering in the future.
