How many carbs should you eat for one meal?

Before you create your delicious Bibibop keto bowl, it’s important to decide how many carbs you want to allow for this meal.

Most people on keto eat between 20 and 50 net grams of carbs per day.

The cool thing about having Bibibop's nutritional information online is that you can play around with ingredients in your Korean bowl to make it as low in carbs as YOU like.

I personally shoot for 50 grams of carbs or fewer per day. When I eat at a restaurant, like Bibibop, I eat lower carb for my other meals so I can have a restaurant meal of about 25 net grams of carbs or fewer.

That's the number that works for me. You can look at the ingredients and create your own bowl based on your own daily carb bowl.

The carb counts I am sharing are for the regular-sized bowl and are NET CARBS (carbs - fiber). Bibibop Asian Grill offers a small bowl, which is a half-size portion, so carb counts are cut in half.

My bowl (plus a side of kimchi) has only 24 net grams of carbs. Since I usually only eat half, that’s 12 carbs for a satisfying, nutritious meal at Bibibop.

How to build a perfectly keto bowl at Bibibop.

While most of the toppings at Bibibop are plant-based and low-carb, when you add lots of toppings (and you can add up to 10 per bowl), the carbs start to add up.

I personally eat up to 50 net grams of carbs per day, so I will allow myself around 25 carbs for my Bibibop bowl. The reason I choose a fairly high percentage of my daily carbs, is because Bibibop bowls are packed with nutritious vegetables. I prefer to spend my carbs on veggies versus junk food.

If you eat fewer carbs per meal, just eliminate some toppings.

Start with a base of cauliflower rice or Supergreens for a keto bowl.

  • Cauliflower rice, 4 grams net carbs

  • Supergreen salad, 2 grams net carbs

Add a low-carb protein.

The proteins are seasoned so even though you would expect a serving of steak to have zero carbs, Bibibop’s steak actually has 9 grams of carbs.  The chicken is the lowest in carbs, but you certainly can splurge on the steak or tofu and still create a healthy keto bowl.

  • Chicken, 4 grams net carbs

  • Spicy chicken, 4 grams net carbs

  • Steak, 9 grams net carbs

  • Tofu, 10 grams net carbs

Add this hot topping, if desired.

  • Bean sprouts, 2 grams net carbs

Choose your favorite low-carb cold toppings.

  • Carrots, 2 grams net carbs

  • Cheese, 0 grams net carbs

  • Cucumber, 1 gram net carbs

  • Eggs, 0 grams net carbs

  • Moochae (spicy radish salad), 3 grams net carbs

  • Sesame kale, 3 grams net carbs

  • Pickled red cabbage, 2 grams net carbs

Add a keto-friendly sauce.

The Yum Yum and Cucumber Wasabi sauces are highest in fat (15 and 16g per serving) which is perfect for a keto diet.

You can request your sauce on the side, and order more than one type of sauce. This allows you to use a really low-carb sauce, and maybe just a drizzle of a higher carb one.

  • Yum Yum sauce, 2 grams net carbs (You can even buy a bottle of Bibibop Yum Yum Sauce on Amazon!)

  • Cucumber Wasabi sauce, 1 gram net carbs

  • Sesame oil, 0 grams net carbs

  • Spicy Sriracha sauce, 5 grams net carbs

  • Teriyaki sauce, 6 grams net carbs

  • Sesame Ginger sauce, 7 grams net carbs

Don't forget a keto-friendly side dish at Bibibop.

  • Kimchi,  3 grams net carbs

  • Miso Soup, 4 grams net carbs

Order a low-carb beverage.

  • Unsweetened black currant tea, 0 grams net carbs (so refreshing!)

  • Diet Coke or Coke Zero, 0 grams net carbs

  • Water, 0 grams net carbs

A quick way to cut carbs in HALF.

Bibibop bowls are large portions. If you’re really hungry, obviously eat the whole thing for lunch or dinner. But, if half a bowl fills you up, consider saving the leftovers for another meal. This is a simple way to cut your carbs in half and get two meals for the price of one!

Doesn’t this keto-friendly meal look beautiful??

My favorite keto Bibibop order,

My personal food philosophy is to never shy away from low-carb veggies, so even though I could cut the kale or carrots for a lower carb bowl, I don't.

I eat to manage my weight AND for good health, and veggies are the healthiest foods on the planet.

  • cauliflower rice base, 4 grams net carbs

  • chicken, 4 grams net carbs

  • bean sprouts, 2 grams net carbs

  • carrots, 2 grams net carbs

  • cheese, 0 grams net carbs

  • eggs, 0 grams net carbs

  • Moochae, 3 grams net carbs

  • sesame kale, 3 grams net carbs

  • pickled red cabbage, 2 grams net carbs

  • cucumber wasabi sauce, 1 gram net carbs

  • side of kimchi, 3 grams net carbs

  • black currant tea, 0 grams net carbs

This bowl is 24 net grams of carbs, and has tons of vitamins, minerals, beautiful colors, and flavors!

I almost never eat the entire bowl, and definitely don't use all the sauces, so the carbs are usually cut in half. This is about 12 net grams of carbs for a healthy, satisfying meal. (I save leftovers for lunch the next day).

If you love Korean flavors, like at Bibibop, you might enjoy learning how to eat keto at a Korean restaurant.

My husband’s bowl had steak and spicy chicken, plus purple rice, potatoes, and pineapple. Delicious and healthy, but definitely not keto.

What foods to avoid at Bibibop if you follow a keto diet.

There are carbs lurking in some of the foods at Bibibop, so just be smart when ordering if you eat low-carb.

Skip these bases.

  • Purple rice, 49 grams net carbs

  • White rice, 59 grams net carbs

  • Japchae (sweet potato) noodles, 42 grams net carbs

Be cautious with these toppings.

Black beans, potatoes, and corn are healthy and full of nutrients but are also higher in carbs. Because the portion size is small, you can definitely budget these into your meal if you are careful with other toppings.

  • Black beans, 6 grams net carbs

  • Potatoes, 9 grams net carbs

  • Corn, 6 grams net carbs

Skip this sauce.

  • Gochujang sauce, 13 grams net carbs

Avoid these higher-carb sides.

  • Pineapple, 6 grams net carbs

  • Strawberry & pineapple, 13 grams net carbs

  • Coconut Milk Pudding with Mango, 29 grams net carbs

  • Superseed Crisp, 15 grams net carbs

Stay away from these beverages.

  • Lemonade, 54 grams net carbs

  • Passion fruit lemonade, 48 grams net carbs

  • Sweetened green tea, 29 grams net carbs

  • Any of the Alo Beverages on the menu (15-18 grams net carbs)

  • Sweetened sodas
